Portraits are without a doubt my favorite type of photography. Each individual tells a story through their quirkiness, beauty and how they interact with the world around them. When I enter portrait mode, I do not want to force a smile, or a certain look. Rather, I wait for the natural part of the person to emerge, and then I will attempt to capture it.

The camera does the work, I am merely the manager of its controls and point it in the right direction. I am so happy to give people their own portraits. And if my shutter can capture a great moment, it is largely because of the brilliance of the subject and not the photographer. For a great portrait, it is the subject that should be thanked first and not the photographer.

My inspiration for portraits comes from Kenji Ishiguro

As a general rule, I only take portraits of people after establishing a personal connection with them, either in person or over a telephone or video call.

Noad

I first me the artist formerly known as Nooad, at a language school in Osaka in 2007. He had a slender Japanese novel in hand which he was reading through. He passed the Kobe University Entrance exam in what year and pursued a career as a lecturer. But after that he develop an eye conditon that prevents him from reading for long periods of time.

Nooad, who changed his name to Xan, which I refuse to bow to because, the name Nooad is a variant of “Noad” (Hebrew) meaning to wander or to move.

Make it

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world.
